The Bowmans’s Bio

Hailing from Davenport Iowa, now based in Brooklyn, The Bowmans have become part of the scene at The Living Room on LES, the Sidewalk Café in the East Village and the Whisky Breath weekly event in Williamsburg.

Sarah, who also plays in Rasputina, has been a fixture in the anti-folk world as a soloist artist and guest cellist.

The band combines Sarah’s lyrics and vocals, Claire’s harmonies, Sarah’s cello and guitar with Claire’s fiddle. The harmonies sound as one astonishing voice. Sarah and Claire share the rare, almost telepathic bond common to twin – indeed, they are clearly on the same musical page.

Vaudeville blends with indie-folk; undertones of classical influences meld with rock and roll edge.

Their current release, Far From Home, was released on Mother West in the US in 2007 and will see a spring 2008 release in Europe on Rounder Europe. 4 tracks from the album went into rotation in 10,000 + Starbucks stores.

The Bowmans just completed a Paste Magazine-sponsored cruise in February with Lyle Lovett, Patty Griffin and Emmylou Harris.

They have shared the stage with The Avett Brothers and Nickel Creek's Chris Thile. Jim Lauderdale and David Rawlings are fans.

“There's something unique about the way harmonies sound when they're sung by talented sisters who've been performing together for their whole lives, and the Brooklyn duo the Bowmans reveal an enchanting blend of voices on their new CD, Far From Home (Mother West)....Clearly there are no boundaries that keep the Bowmans fenced in.'"
